April 2-5, 2018

Welcome back! I hope everyone had an amazing Spring Break. Although I enjoyed a restful week, I really missed my students. Here is what they have to look forward to this week:

Math: We are continuing to work on adding and subtracting two digit numbers. We are also reviewing patterns, creating number sentences, counting money, writing the time, writing and illustrating fractions, reading a thermostat, measuring lines, and completing word problems. We have also added expanded form to our math skills!

IEW: We are currently writing about our reading. We are also reading poems, identifying key words, and summarizing our reading using these key words. The students are loving their writing journals, and they are eager to bring them home!

Riggs: Every morning we test 30 words. We receive five new words each day, and the first five words on the list that day drop off for the following day. So our spelling words are a rolling list of 30. Check student’s Riggs notebooks for check-marks beside words. These are words they need to practice for homework—along with their new five words that they receive each day. Their new words are the last five words written in their Riggs notebook. They are also written in their planner each day. We are also reviewing multi-letter phonograms.

Guided Reading: This week we are reading The Invisible Boy. We are discussing predictions, character traits, cause and effect, and retelling the story. We are also using our reading buddies to help us read words that may be difficult to us. This week's vocabulary word is empathy

Core Knowledge: We are starting our electricity unit!
